Report from Vice Captain - Paul 'Innnn One' Preston
On a clear sunny Sunday morning, players from all over the country descended into Hastings for the popular Planet Hastings Crazy Golf Open. Organised by John 'Ted' McIver who was also celebrating his birthday with some strong lieutenants, the tournament was going to be played over one lap of each of the three courses - Adventure (with two new hole layouts, thi sis by far the hardest course of the three), Pirate (home of the 2015 WAGM) and Crazy (which we all know is the home of the World Crazy Golf Championships).
A good start would be needed to ensure competitiveness over the final two rounds. Thankfully for the Wasps, both Nuno and Andy had great starts ending Round 1 on 5th and 7th respectively. Steve was in midfield in 15th with Paul hitting a disappointing 49 ending the round in 17th place. Quinn played well on Adventure but a few concentration lapses meant he finished with a 72 (but he is only 10). Paul's course record of 38 (albeit on the old layout was safe) from 2014 remains in tact although Nuno's 40 can also claim to be the record now.
Pirate course was up next for the brave Wasps and there were some good scores, Nuno hit a 32 (3rd best score on the course), Paul 33 (4th), Andy 34 (6th), Steve 35 (10th) and Quinn (24th). Little did we know at the time but Tiger Pragnell was leading after two excellent rounds but just ahead from Michael Smith with Nuno tied for overall 3rd place.
The final round on the Crazy course played its part in the tournament but another solid display from the Wasps. Nuno finished tied for 3rd with Tiger. Andy cementing his Category 1 status with an impressive 7th place ahead of some very experienced players. Paul ended with 12th place which was disappointing considering a 2nd place earlier in the season at the Cupcake Open. Steve maybe had other things on his mind but it was great to see him in the circumstances and finished in 13th. Quinn remains consistent as he has now not finished in bottom place for two consecutive tournaments with a 24th final position.
