CAMBRIDGESHIRE & ESSEX OPEN 2015
Sussex Wasps Results
2 - Steve Lovell (6 shots behind winner)
3 - Nuno Cunha (9 shots behind winner)
6 - Andy Wilde (15 shots behind winner)
7 - Paul Preston (18 shots behind winner)
16 - Derek Bentall (23 shots behind winner)
Report from Captain - Steve 'Sheila' Lovell
A tremendous day at the first CEMGC Open for the Sussex Wasps in West Horndon has yielded all kind of plaudits. Firstly, a huge congratulations to Emily, Mark, Keith, Chris, James and Adrian at the CEMGC for running such a great tournament and many thanks to our hosts at Dunton Hills.
Britain's number one Michael Smith took the win by six shots having been a late entrant from Wasps captain Steve Lovell for his best result to date. In a playoff with Mark Wood, Nuno Cunha secured bronze. Andy Wilde was a more than impressive sixth and won the category two title, while Paul Preston made 7th (winning the aces prizes and chocolates ahoy) and Derek Bentall not too far behind in 16th.
The course at Dunton Hills is probably the most challenging we have ever played and the scores reflect that. Michael Smith and Steve Lovell lowered the course record to 42 only for Michael to bust that wide open with a second round 39.
The Sussex Wasps are once again proving just how talented we are and how far we have come in such a short space of time. I'm really proud of my team, you put so much effort in and we are now reaping the rewards.
